RBS Training in California

REGULATORY BATTLE BREWING BETWEEN HOSPITALITY WORKERS & EMPLOYERS

by Michael Aberle September 12, 2022

A new law requiring 1 million California Alcohol Servers to receive new training has hospitality workers asking, “Who has to pay for the training?”

As of now, the California Department of Alcohol and Beverage control is offering only an assessment of the costs but no opinion of who should pay:

“The Department cannot give guidance on this issue, and strongly recommends employees and employers consult labor attorneys that specialize in the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act and similar laws under California law which often extend protections to employees further. The time an employee is being trained may be deemed as hours worked since the training is mandatory to remain employed and directly related to an alcohol server’s employment, even if asked to be completed away from the business and not during normal working hours.”

With GetRBS.Com, Mindmeld Learning is reaching out to employers to offer cost-effective compliance training for alcohol servers in half the time of other courses on the market.  “GetRBS.com is certified and endorsed by the California Department of Alcohol and Beverage Control”, said Mike Aberle, CEO of Mindmeld Learning, “In 90 minutes, GetRBS.com covers all of the new regulations. This saves time and money for employers and employees.”

GetRBS.com is an award-winning curriculum covering all of the updated ABC regulations in an engaging curriculum created for maximum retention. The ABC estimates another 700,000 California alcohol beverage servers have yet to complete the new training which was due August 31st, 2022.

“This opens hospitality employers up to potential enforcement action”, said Aberle, “We are working as fast as we can to reach out to both small businesses and large hospitality companies”. Check this too.
